According to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the vast majority of cyber attacks are basic in nature and are carried out by relatively unskilled individuals. Many cybercriminals are ordinary people who look for vulnerabilities in online security defences. However, even basic attacks can have significant consequences if sensitive data is stolen. Cyber Essentials provides guidance on how to prevent these attacks.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Many attackers look for targets which don’t have certain security measures in place. The Cyber Essentials scheme was developed by the NCSC and backed by the Government to help organisations put security measures in place which address these vulnerabilities and prevent common attacks.
With the support of Cyber Essentials, organisations can protect themselves from 80% of the most basic cybersecurity breaches. Organisations must complete a self-assessment each year to see where their own security defences are vulnerable. When measures have been put in place to address vulnerabilities, the organisation receives a certification.

As part of the scheme, we take an annual assessment which highlights new potential vulnerabilities. We’re provided with up-to-date guidance to reduce the chance of becoming a target and the assessment is then verified by an independent auditor. Our certification is proof of our preparedness against a wide variety of the most common cyber attacks.

Certification is valid for 12 months. Each year we will perform a new assessment to ensure our security remains up to date and invite an auditor to check our systems meet the criteria. This, combined with other measures we’re taking outside of the Cyber Essentials scheme, means our customers can use our products and services with peace of mind
