Evidence your care home is caring
Is your care home caring? On the surface, this may sound like a funny question, but this is one of the five key lines of enquiries the CQC and a key quality regulators look for during an inspection. There are multiple ways you can produce a caring service, including giving the right types of care, ensuring people are treated well and not discriminated against, responding to needs effectively and looking after your workforce.

Provide dignity and respect through independence & choice
Treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion, while respecting privacy and dignity is critical for providing a first-class care service. Much of this can be achieved through having good communication and recognising the specific needs and strengths of the individuals in your care – then by recording the steps you’re taking to make the desired service possible.

For example, questions that aren’t relevant to the individual based on previous answers will not appear.

Person-centred care
The fundamentals of person-centred care are based on delivering a service that treats people as individuals while making sure their care, support and treatment meet their needs and preferences. For the best possible results, it’s necessary to take into account each person’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and backgrounds.
Continuing on from completing a CareDocs bespoke care assessment – the next step is to transfer the information you capture into a person-centred care plan. This process only takes minutes, and as long as the assessment questions have been answered in detail, the majority of criteria needed to ensure your service is person-centred will already be in place. It’s then up to your staff to make it a reality.
You can then read through the care plan with the individual and make any necessary improvements. Each care plan section contains a dedicated space for preferences (where applicable) so you won’t need to look far or ask the resident to repeat their preferred methods of care.
Respond to immediate needs
When concerns arise, they should be noted and effectively dealt with as soon as possible. The actions you take and the outcomes of your responses are two things inspectors will look for when deciding the standard of care your service provides. Evidencing issues can be done either through creating daily care notes or certain forms, such as a simple feedback form.
Demonstrating how you got from point A to point B is key. You can use additional recording tools in CareDocs such as body maps and emotion maps to keep track of physical and mental wellbeing in relation to specific conditions or events.
Staff wellbeing & enablement
Another important aspect of being a caring business is showing that you value your staff and promote wellbeing.
