International Women’s Day 2022 – supporting equality for women in tech
“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.” – https://www.internationalwomensday.com/
International Women’s Day is an annual day to celebrate women’s achievement, raise awareness about women’s rights and equality, and speak out against bias.
In addition to building workplaces where women thrive, elevating visibility of women creatives and forging women’s empowerment worldwide, one of the many goals of International Women’s Day is to improve equality for women in technology. Two ways businesses can support this mission is to advance gender parity and celebrate women who are forging innovation.
Women at CareDocs
We, at CareDocs, are immensely proud to have an essential and talented team of women working across the business in all departments. From software development, to technical support, business development, training, HR and marketing – women play key roles in influencing our culture and success.
Sarah Conn (head of Business Development), Anna Szumska (Lead UX Designer), Karen Ellis (Trainer) and Ingrid Larsen (Product Manager), are just some of the skilled minds that work closely with various aspects of technology. Even though each of them each play a unique role, they share a common responsibility of enhancing our customers’ experience in different ways.
We are also honoured to support the hardworking and inspiring women that work in care. Care workers of all genders have been and will continue to be the backbone of our country’s collective wellbeing. We’re delighted to able to share technology with you and assist you through your digital journeys, which is a continually rewarding experience for us.
Supporting women through MotherBoard
MotherBoard is a Charter and community that’s been created to drive positive change throughout the UK Technology and Data sectors. By networking with companies in these sectors, the community is able to create and improve professional environments to better fit the needs of working mothers. In return, the sectors can take advantage of a supported talent base to fill a range of vacancies.
Companies can participate by committing to meet the following objectives and report back annually:
- Improve gender balance within technology and data teams throughout the UK.
- Champion part-time and flexible working across all levels of seniority, enabling the advancement of women’s careers in technology and data-led roles.
- Increase the % of working mothers holding leadership or board level positions.
- Close the gender pay gap.
- Educate organisations on how they can support mothers throughout their careers.
- Improve maternity and return to work policies.
We recently joined MotherBoard as a Founding Signatory for its Charter to support these objectives and help inform others on the subject. Our very own Anna Szumska, Lead User Experience Designer, recently took park in a panel of business leaders to discuss what we need to do to better support women and mothers that are working within the tech industry. This educational event is one example of how the community is supporting women.
