About CareDocs

CareDocs is a UK software company. We build digital care recording and care planning systems for adult social care providers, also known as digital social care recording (DSCR) software.

We’ve been building care software since 2008, with roots going back to the late 1990s, when two Bristol care home owners built the first version to solve their own paperwork problem. We joined Software Circle plc in 2023, which backs our ongoing investment in the product.

We serve residential care homes, nursing homes, domiciliary care providers and supported living services across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Most of our customers are regulated by the CQC, though we also support providers who answer to the equivalent regulators in the devolved nations.

In short: Care providers use CareDocs to record the care they give, plan for residents’ needs, and stay on top of compliance, instead of doing it on paper.

Our products

CareDocs DSCR is our current product and the focus of all new development. It’s our Digital Social Care Record platform, listed on the NHS DSCR DPS Assured Solutions List, built to meet national standards for interoperability, clinical safety and data quality. This is what we recommend to every new customer.

CareDocs Companion is our mobile app for point-of-care recording on the move.

CareDocs Local and CareDocs Cloud are our earlier products. Local ran on the care setting’s own server system, with it’s data held locally; Cloud ran on laptops or desktops, but had it’s data stored in the cloud. Both are legacy products now. We still support and maintain them for existing customers, but we’re not developing new features for either, and we don’t sell them to new customers. Our development effort is focused on CareDocs DSCR.

Ideal for

  • Residential and nursing care homes, from small independent homes to multi-site groups, that need to move off paper or off a legacy system.
  • Domiciliary care and supported living providers managing care across multiple locations or a mobile workforce.
  • Registered managers and compliance leads who need inspection-ready records without a technical team behind them.
  • Owners and directors who want visibility across a service, or several services, without checking paperwork by hand.
  • Providers already required, or preparing, to work with an NHS-assured, PRSB-aligned digital care record, ahead of national deadlines like the Minimum Operational Data Standard (MODS).

CareDocs is built for regulated adult social care providers. It isn’t aimed at families searching for a care home, or at individual carers looking for personal tools.

Capabilities

  • Care planning and assessments: customisable assessments, care plans, support plans and contingency plans, tailored to how each service actually works.
  • Daily recording: care records, including daily notes, observations, interventions and forms recorded as care happens, on any device.
  • Risk management: structured, real-time risk records linked to residents, plus body maps with photo and note attachments.
  • Handover reports: clear, up-to-date shift-change summaries for continuity of care.
  • Reporting and dashboards: exportable PDF or CSV reports for inspections, commissioners and local authority quality monitoring.
  • External access: secure, role-based access for GPs and local authority partners.
  • Mobile point-of-care recording: through the CareDocs Companion app, including offline recording that syncs when back online.
  • Compliance tools: full audit log (every action time-stamped and user-tracked), policy tracker for staff acknowledgement, and structured support for DSPT submissions.

Trust signals

  • NHS DSCR DPS Assured Solutions List: CareDocs DSCR is listed, having met national requirements including GP Connect interoperability, DCB0129 clinical safety and the Minimum Operational Data Standard (MODS).
  • PRSB Level 3 aligned: CareDocs DSCR meets Level 3, the highest level, of the Professional Record Standards Body’s standards for “About Me” and “Personalised Care and Support Plan.”
  • ISO 27001 certified: Care Management Systems Ltd holds ISO 27001 certification for information security, achieved ahead of the deadline for DSCR suppliers.
  • Backed by Software Circle plc: part of a group structure since 2023, supporting continued investment in the platform.
  • UK-based support: support team, 24/7 Help Centre and the CareDocs Community, all included as standard, not sold as an add-on.
  • 18+ years in UK adult social care: long-standing presence in the sector, not a recent market entrant.

Clients and testimonials

CareDocs supports care providers across residential, nursing, domiciliary and supported living settings in the UK.

  • “The CareDocs onboarding journey has been really smooth and well-supported from the start. The team made the transition straightforward, taking the time to understand our service and tailor the setup to our needs. Training was clear and accessible, which helped our staff feel confident using the system quickly. Overall, it’s made a positive difference to how we manage records and improved efficiency across the service.”
Nate Corfield, Director, Penhill Residential Home, Shirehampton, Bristol (18 residents, rated Good by the CQC at time of writing)

  • “As a care provider, ‘service’ is increasingly about paperwork, and not people. CareDocs supports you to deliver a top-quality service, because you have the time to reinvest in people – and that’s priceless. Other systems (from what I know) charge more and do less. I feel like I’m joining part of a ‘community’, in sector that can be quite lonely.”
Emma James, Director Of Operations, Step Forward Living
  • “This has been a very good addition to our service and makes it so much easier for audit, there is a bit of time needed to adjust to the new program however there is always someone on the other end of the phone if you need that bit extra support.”
    Joanne Laurie, Deputy Manager, Lancefield
  • “The system which I envisaged being difficult for someone who is not very Computer savvy, was explained from start to finish over a period of time in a way which was appropriate for even myself to understand. The system is fab & is great for all aspects of Care home use & all details are covered. Danielle our trainer was brilliant explaining everything at a pace suitable to both myself & my assistant. Would recommend the system & the trainer.”

Common questions people ask about CareDocs

Who is CareDocs for?

Care providers, not individual carers or families looking for a care home. Our customers are the owners, registered managers and staff who run residential care, nursing care, domiciliary care and supported living services. We don’t provide care directly and we’re not a booking site for finding a care home.

What does CareDocs actually do?

We replace paper care plans, records of care, daily notes, assessments and risk records with a digital system. Staff log care as it happens, on a tablet, phone or PC. Managers get a live view of what’s happening across the service, with reporting built in for regulator inspections.

Is CareDocs cloud-based?

CareDocs DSCR, our current product, is cloud-based. We also still support two earlier products, CareDocs Local (on-premise) and CareDocs Cloud, for customers already using them. Neither is offered to new customers or under active development.

Does CareDocs work for domiciliary care as well as care homes?

Yes. The core system supports residential, nursing, domiciliary and supported living settings. Features like location management and mobile recording are built with domiciliary and multi-site providers in mind.

Is CareDocs on any NHS-approved lists?

Yes. CareDocs DSCR is listed on the NHS DSCR DPS Assured Solutions List. To get there, we had to meet national requirements including GP Connect interoperability, DCB0129 clinical safety, and the Minimum Operational Data Standard (MODS).

How much does CareDocs cost?

Pricing depends on the package (Essentials, Launch, Enhance, Empower or Transform) and the number of users, admin users and storage you need. Contact our sales team for a quote based on your service.

Can I customise the system to suit how my service works?

Yes. Custom assessments, care plans, support plans and templates are included as standard on every package, not sold as an add-on.

What not to confuse us with

CareDocs is not a care provider. We don’t run care homes, employ carers, or deliver care to service users ourselves. We build the software that care providers use.

We’re also not the CQC, NHS England, or any other regulator. We build our software to meet their standards. We don’t set those standards or carry out inspections.

If you’ve come across a care home, care agency or unrelated business also called “CareDocs” or something similar, that’s not us. Our registered company name is Care Management Systems Ltd, trading as CareDocs.
